Event:          African-American Read Aloud/Career Day

When:          Friday, February 11, 2011 at 9AM

In celebration of Black History Month, African American professionals from the community will share their time with students at Cesar Batalla School reading out loud books and sharing useful knowledge about various careers and professions. Through these activities, students will be reminded that African Americans can be successful and that they have mentors and role models in their community that they can emulate.

 

 

Event:          “Creating Poetry in Our Own Words – Together, Voicing the Dream” Black History Celebrations

Staff Luncheon: On February 11, 2011, from 11:00am – 1:30pm, traditional Black Heritage foods will be prepared for staff to celebrate black history and all their efforts during Black History Month. Staff will share favorite recipes.

 

Career Day: Over 30 community professionals and leaders will gather at Roosevelt from 8:45 am to 11 am on February 15, 2011 to talk to several different assigned classrooms about their professions. They will also be interviewed by a middle school student about their careers and the decisions they have made that helped them be successful. All classrooms Pre-K to 8th grade will have at least one volunteer present in their classroom during the event.

 

School-wide Assembly: On February 18, 2011, at 9:30 am in the auditorium, each grade level will have selected students to recite a poem from the Black poets they studied as part of a month-long poster project.
