BRIDGEPORT SUPERINTENDENT DR. RAMOS TO SPEAK AT

RHODE ISLAND COLLEGE, FEB. 15, 2011

 

“Designing Education For Our Times” is the topic of a discussion by John Ramos, Sr., superintendent of Bridgeport Public Schools, who will speak at Rhode Island College on Tuesday, Feb. 15, from 4-6 p.m. in Alger Hall, room 110.

 

Ramos, the 2010 recipient of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Award from the Consulate of Israel in New York and 2010 winner of the John Winthrop Wright Ethics in Action Award, will discuss the importance and implications of public educational reform – a lecture pertinent to educators, students, parents and community leaders.

 

“I am both honored and delighted to be invited to Rhode Island College to share our work, the challenges, and the increasing accomplishments of our more than 20,000 scholars in the Bridgeport Public Schools,” Ramos said. “I look forward to sharing the work as we design education for our times.”

 

Ramos received a bachelor’s degree in English and American Literature from Brown University; his MPA in Public Administration from the University of Rhode Island and his doctorate in Educational Administration from Columbia University. He is a graduate of Leadership Rhode Island and the Norwalk Community Leadership Institute.

 

The Bridgeport Public Schools district Ramos leads is second largest in Connecticut. Previously he has served as deputy commissioner for educational programs and services for the Connecticut State Department of Education; superintendent of Watertown, Conn., Public Schools; assistant Superintendent for curriculum and instruction for Norwalk Public schools; and principal of Norwalk High School.

 

He has also held several positions in education in Rhode Island, among them principal/director for the Alternative Learning Project High School in Providence and director of minority student affairs for the University of Rhode Island. 1982.
