Mrs. Lorinda Larson
Wecome to Mrs. Larson's Social Studies Classes for the 2020-2021 School Year!
Hello! I am Mrs. Larson and am happy to say that I have been teaching at Bassick High School since 1997. I love my Bassick and I love teaching my Bassick students
My hometown is Meriden, Connecticut, where I attended parochial and public schools. Graduating from Central Connecticut State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Education, I went on to complete my 30 credits toward a Master's Degree in Business Education. My sixth year of education was in Learning Disabilities. I was the first person in my family to go to college. Each day I think of my beloved Italian and Polish immigrant grandparents, and the sacrifices they made so that my brother and I could have the opportunities to be where we are today. Immediately out of college after my Bachelor's Degree, I began my teaching career. I have taught in Connecticut and in Pennsylvania. I was very happy to attain a position at Bassick and enjoy walking into the building each morning. In 2013 I became a Social Studies teacher and found a new love of teaching.
This school year, I am teaching Civics and Perspectives on Race--two subjects I so enjoy teaching to my students. Civics is a state of Connecticut graduation requirement, and Perspectives on Race is a Bridgeport graduation requirement.
Out of school, I have three adult children. Spending time with them is my joy. I enjoy reading about history--especially ancient times and the 20th Century, the universe, and certain fiction authors. In the spring and fall, I do a lot of gardening. In the summer, one of my favorite places is any waterpark. I so enjoy them, especially the slides!
