    HISTORY:
SVAB began in 1964 as a Junior League project.  In 1966 the American Association of University Women assumed leadership.  The organization was incorporated in 1967 and expanded into a citywide program working with the School Volunteer Office to organize volunteer readers, tutors and mentors and programs for students.  The School Volunteer Association of Bridgeport, Inc. was one of the country’s first school volunteer organizations.  On June 21, 1968, Life magazine marked the organization’s first anniversary with a nine page pictorial spread.
