My name is Kristen Byron and I've have been a BPS School Counselor since 2002, working at the high school level since 2006.
 
I received my B.A. in Psychology at Lynchburg College and my M.A in School Counseling at Fairfield University, and a Sixth-year certification. I am a member of NEACAC, ASCA, and the NEA.
 
I love working with high school students at all grade levels watching them learn and grow during their years at Bassick. I sincerely believe that each of them has the potential to be successful. I look forward to working with my students and their families to support them in any way possible and to help them reach their career and/or college goals.

Mr. Jim Gildea

My name is Jim Gildea and I am a school counselor at Bassick HS. I began at Bassick as an English teacher and have been a counselor here since 1998.

I have a Bachelor’s degree from Southern CT State University, a Master’s of School Counseling degree from University of Bridgeport and a Sixth-Year of educational studies. I am a member of ASCS, NSCA and NEACAC.

I enjoy working with our wonderful students at Bassick and truly believe that their future is promising and bright. It is the mission of the Bassick counseling department to enthusiastically assist our students in achieving their future goals.

Mrs. Karissa Shields

 My name is Mrs. Karissa Shields and I am a School Counselor at Bassick High School. I have been working as a School Counselor in Bridgeport since 2015. I have worked at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. 

 
I have a Bachelors degree in Communication Science from the University of Connecticut and a Masters of School Counseling from Southern Connecticut State University. I current hold my LPCA and I am working towards becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). I hold my NCC certification and am a member of ASCA, CSCA, NCDA, CCA, and NEACAC.  
 
I look forward to working with each of my students and their families to support them throughout their high school careers and future planning processes. 
 
I am proud to be a Bassick Lion!
