• Scholarship Description

    Scholarship History: In honor of our 25th Anniversary, and as a memorial to three of our outstanding supporters, the BARQUIN-BULLARD-THOMPSON SCHOLARSHIP FUND was established in 1989. Agustin Barquin - went beyond the call of duty, as he especially impacted the Latino community; Edward P. Bullard – a Board member, made a special impact on our neighborhood ventures and Em B. Thompson – dedicated her life to youth and older persons through the Employment Training Program.

     

    The Fund was previously administered through the Bridgeport Area Foundation, in cooperation with a special committee made up of agency board and staff. As of January 1, 2008, the Fund is now administered by the Fairfield County Community Foundation, formerly known as the Bridgeport Area Foundation.

     

    This award is presented at Alliance’s Annual Meeting to High School Seniors in our service area: Bridgeport, Easton, Fairfield, Monroe, Norwalk. Stratford, Trumbull and Westport. This is a private scholarship and is open to the children/grandchildren of our employees or by a recommendation from a board member.

     

    In addition to the BARQUIN-BULLARD-THOMPSON SCHOLARSHIP AWARD, additional scholarships have been sponsored by United Technologies (Sikorsky Aircraft), Searles & Houser, People’s United Bank, Blum Shapiro Foundation, Elizabeth M. Pfriem, the Ernest & Joan Trefz Foundation, Lindley Food Services, Leela & Murali D. Atluru Family Foundation, First Baptist Church of Stratford, Frontier Communications Gateway, Aquarion Water Company, Alloy Engineering, Derek Jones, GE United Way Campaign, Just Give and Dr. June & Kevin Malone.

     

    The amount of the award this year is $1,000, which will be presented at Alliance’s 59th Annual Meeting on May 24th. Awardees are expected to attend. Applicants will be notified by e-mail/letter on the status of their application.

     

    Scholarship Guidelines

    Deadline: Applications (addressed to the Executive Director) must be received by mail or in our “drop-in” box at 1070 Park Avenue, Bridgeport, CT 06604 OR by email to: LKirkland@AllianceCT.org no later than Friday, May 5th.
