Edison School has been an important part of the community since 1942. We are fortunate to be a part of a neighborhood school where generations of families have received their education here. Our school is currently comprised of 13 classrooms of students in grades K-6. In addition to their core subjects (Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies), students participate in Art, Physical Education, Music, Writing and Enrichment in the Library.
The Edison Instructional Leadership Team consists of our Principal, School Psychologist, Writing/Intervention Teacher and two Special Education Teachers. All our teachers play a critical role in supporting student achievement. 100% of our classrooms are equipped with Smart Boards that allow students to participate in interactive lessons. In addition, all students have access to Chrome Books, and Windows Surfacebooks where they are able to participate in educational activities.
We are currently utilizing iReady to screen all our students. This universal screening takes place three times a year (September, January and May). These results play a critical role in determining what types of intervention our students will receive to meet their individual needs. All students participate in some level of SRBI (Scientifically Researched Based Intervention).
In addition to our universal screenings, students in grades K-6 participate in iReady Diagnostics. The results of this assessment allow classroom teacher to provide instruction that supports students based upon their reading abilities. Your child’s results will not be indicated on his/her report card, but you are always welcome to speak with the classroom teacher to receive additional information.
Students in grades 3-6 will participate in the Connecticut state assessment SBAC (Smarter Balance Assessment Consortium). This year the assessments will mostly be taken online so we are busy preparing our students on how to utilize technology effectively. Assessments will focus on Language Arts and Math. Results will be distributed to schools at some point. Our testing will take place from April 20th - May 11th. Specific details will follow so that you can help support your child/children in this endeavor.
We pride ourselves on developing good citizens, which is supported by our involvement in PBIS (Positive Behavioral Intervention Support). Students are acknowledged for following our Golden Rules of Being Responsible, Being Respectful and Being Safe. Students collect Eagle Earnings and are able to turn them in to our school store for items of their choice.
Our School Governance Committee consists of our Principal, Home School Coordinator, five teachers, seven parents and two members of the community. This team meets once a month to review things going on in the school, including student achievement and planning family events. All parents are welcome to attend these meetings. Monthly meeting minutes are posted on our website for your review.
The Trumbull Rotary has generously supported our students for several years. In addition to providing all students with Time for Kids, a member of the Rotary sits on our School Governance Committee. We are also applying for a Rotary grant to fund an event in the Spring.
The Lighthouse program, run by Mr. Veccharelli, provides students with homework support as well as exposure to a variety of activities such as Theater Arts, Golf, Tennis, Bowling, Singing, Ballroom Dancing, and Computers. At this time Edison School Lighthouse Program serves over 90 students in grades K-6.
