Dear Parents and Guardians of Skane Students,
I am thrilled to welcome you back to school for the 20-21 school year. I am humbled to serve as the Principal of Skane Center and I look forward to meeting you in person. During this difficult time, know that we will come together to ensure the safety of your child and the entire Skane community. I am excited to kick off the school year and welcome our new and returning families and students to A.B. Skane School. Our immediate focus is on the safety of all while working diligently to improve attendance rate, as regular attendance at school impacts significantly on your child’s progress.
The first day of school is quickly approaching: Tuesday, September 8, 2020. This week will be half days all week for in person learning. Please refer to the School Hours link for the arrival and dismissal times. The staff and I are thrilled to share a year of learning together with all our students. Before the first day, please prepare your student for a head start for school by helping them get plenty of sleep (11-13 hours is recommended) as well as reading with them 30 minutes daily.
The school building is open and ready to receive your child whether you have chosen for them to attend in person or remotely. We are so looking forward to having children among us again laughing, singing, playing and engaging with teachers to learn and develop their skills in preparation for Kindergarten in just one or two short years. We also anticipate welcoming you back into our building soon, once the guidance tells us that we are allowed to welcome visitors and families into the building. You are the most integral part of this process and we will find creative ways to communicate and engage your presence in your child’s educational program.
The Skane Center Reopening Plan for parents is here: Skane School Reopening Plan. We also invite you to join us on Facebook by liking the Skane School Facebook Page and joining our Community Facebook Group. I will host a virtual Town Hall and Facebook live sessions to answer any questions that you may have. Once these are scheduled, they will be posted and recorded; please join me. Teachers will also be posting pictures of their classrooms and videos of virtual tours of the building.
Within the first few days of school, your child’s teacher will send home a list of items that you child will need for a successful school year whether they are attending in person or remotely. We are also making plans to distribute tablets for every child joining us from home. In the meantime, please feel free to contact us with any questions or needs for clarification. Thank you for your continued commitment to your child’s education and unwavering dedication to Skane School.
With warm regards,
Bridget Corcoran, Principal
