Student Data Privacy Statement

  •      Bridgeport Public Schools is committed to protecting student data in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), Children's Internet Privay Act (CIPA) and Connecticut Student Data Privacy Act (CT PA 16-189). This Connecticut specific law, addresses the provision of personally identifiable student information to individuals or entities outside Bridgeport Public Schools. Bridgeport Public Schools collects personally identifiable information for the purposes of school and district operations (see  informational flyer) only providing received data to parties within the district authorized to access the material.

While the District observes student confidentiality under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), this Connecticut public act adds a layer of requirements to ensure student privacy beyond that of the federal regulations. This sets forth minimum privacy and contractual standards for all parties involved in the creation, use, or handling of student data. The Connecticut Commission for Educational Technology has created an Educational Software Hub for educators and software developers to understand the statute and sign a digital Student Data Privacy Pledge. District faculty and staff may visit the site to see resources and offerings including companies who have pledged compliance with PA 16-189.

Bridgeport Public School district faculty and staff may request access to have an online service provider, computer application, mobile device applications (app), interactive website or similar evaluated by the Data Management division of the Information Technology Services department. Please go to our Help Desk website located here to submit your request under the "Software Evaluation (PA-16-189)" category.
