Mr. Eles

Welcome to English 10!

Activities in our classroom will center around creativity, collaboration, and community, implementing our core, curricular texts through the use of reality and hip-hop pedagogy. We will write and read to succeed, speak up with empowered voices, and listen with empathy.

I was born in Bridgeport and was raised in Fairfield where I attended K-12 public schools. During my bachelor’s degree at WCSU in Danbury, I was able to study abroad for a semester in Glasgow, Scotland and took time to visit my grandparents' homes and families in Slovenia.

As a teacher, I enjoy attending workshops for hip hop and reality pedagogy each year at Columbia University and Harvard. I love music and come from a rock and roll / folk background as the vocalist, lyricist, and guitarist in my own rock trio. But my teaching journey is about the intersection of these genres and vocations.

Some of the texts we will read this year include: To Kill a Mockingbird, "The Lottery," "Marriage is a Private Affair," Maus: A Survivor's Tale, Night, and Shakespeare's Othello.

Looking forward to a great year!
