Mrs. Laskey

Welcome to my teacher page!  I teach students who receive special education services in small classes and sometimes in co taught classes with another teacher.  This is my eighth year at Bassick, from which my father, aunts and cousins graduated and went on to careers in nursing, the military, and engineering.  They lived on Gregory Street, near the corner of Iranistan Avenue, and we visited there often after my family moved from Bridgeport to Trumbull.  I live in Trumbull with my husband and daughter and too many cats and dogs.

I graduated from Trumbull High School, and from Southern Connecticut State University earned a BS/Bachelor of Science in English teaching grades 7-12.

From Southern I next earned an MS/masters degree in Counseling.

I have an MSW/Master of Social Work from Smith College, through which I completed a clinical internship at Yale Child Study Center.

I have additional certifications in special education and school social work and am a licesnsed clinical social worker.

I specialize in teaching students with learning differences with some behavior and emotional issues. As a social worker, I worked in psychiatric settings and in private practice.

I case manage students with IEPs and plan PPTs.  I welcome calls from parents and communicate often, with good news as well as to work as a team on things that may need improvement.

I'm a cooperating teacher, and can have student teachers from local colleges.  I've been an adjunct faculty professor at Fordham University, supervised social work students, and co-published articles in professional medical journals and e-print magazines.

On the east coast, I've provided public speaking presentations and professional development about bullying interventions, raising boys in America, school shooters, mental health treatment and "neutral classroom management" to parents, families, nurses, teachers, MSWs, psychologists, psychiatrists and mental health workers.

I encourage you to get in touch with me.  We're a team.  I like to say to students, "Words are the big equalizer.  No matter who you are or where you come from, communicating well lets your voice be heard.  My job is to encourage you to get there and keep going."
