    2020 - 2021

    August 24, 2020

    Dear Parents/ Guardians:

On behalf of the Edison School staff we extend a warm welcome for the 2020/2021 school year. The vison we hold is to educate the whole child in a collaborative community. At Edison we believe all students can learn and ALL MEANS ALL. As we enter this new school year with many uncertainties, please know it is our number one priority to ensure that every student receives a well-rounded education - whether at home or in person.

Please review the BPS (Bridgeport Public Schools) reopening plan on the BPS website. The plan provides detailed information on a full reopening of schools and the guidelines that will be followed. Students of families who did not complete the BPS Re-opening Plan survey will automatically be placed on remote learning. To attend school in person, you must allow one week for adjustments to be made

Due to positive containment efforts in Connecticut, Governor Lamont has announced a plan for reopening schools in the fall. BPS will be prepared to change our reopening model to support a partial reopening if the public health data changesElementary schools will reopen for in person learning 5 days a week for all studentsThe first day of school is September 8th and is a one session day - arrival at starting at 8:40 AM and dismissal at 12:50 PM. Breakfast and lunch will be served. All classes will be live streamed so that those students whose parents who responded to BPS Re-opening plan survey saying they would NOT send their children back to school can take part. Devices will be made available to students. Parents can change their minds – if a parent chooses remote learning you must provide 24 hours’ notice so accommodations can be made; if a parent chooses in-person learning you must provide 1 weeks’ notice so accommodations can be made.

As a precaution, the BOE has approved restricting access to the school building by visitors. Visitors will not be allowed into the school building unless scheduled to enter or required by law for a PPTAll visitors will be required to wear a face mask. All visitors to the school will be required to report to the Main Office to sign-in and provide name, contact phone number, arrival, and departure timeAll students will enter and dismiss through the Main Doors following social distancing protocolsMain Doors open at 8:40 AM and students will be dismissed starting at 3:00 PM.

The school day will look different: students will remain with their homeroom for all classes, including specials and students will eat breakfast and lunch following all social distancing guidelines; recess and mask breaks will be built into the daily schedulesupply list will be sent home by all teachers as the sharing of materials and resources in the classroom is discouraged. Teachers will also wear face masks during the school day. The School Nurse will isolate sick students and contact parents for pick up when a child develops symptoms during the school day

Each of us has a responsibility for supporting the safety of all – students, parents, teachers, and administrators. It is important that we all take responsibility for our role in keeping everyone safe
