Will Advance to State Finals March 9th, 9:30AM, at St. Joseph's University in West Hartford

Congratulations to PCM 8th Grader Sean from Mr. Johnson's homeroom.  After an intense, 2-day competition in Ms. Amezquita's ELA class, he and 9 other spelling guru's faced off today in the school finals.  After 7 rounds, Sean won the school finals by coolly spelling the word "m-e-d-i-c-i-n-a-l."

"Man of La Mancha" Gets Rave Reviews from PCM Students

Thanks to our friends and donors at the Westport Country Playhouse, PCM's 7th & 8th Grade students attended the Playhouse's performance of "Man of La Mancha."  Students could be seen, and heard, booing, cheering, woo-ing and all around enjoying the performance!

"Man of La Mancha" is a tale of legendary author, poet and playwright Miguel de Cervanted, author of "Don Quixote."  He finds himself imprisoned and forced to defend himself in a mock court held by the prisoners.  As his defense, he stages a re-telling of his famous novel with he and his fellow inmates acting out the story.  Quixote, like Cervantes, finds himself a dreamer.  Our students were presented with some difficult questions.  In this sometimes brutal world in which Quixote, Cervantes, and we live, is it better to be a realist or an idealist?

"Man of La Mancha" is running at the Westport Country Playhouse through October 13th.

    Amazing Girls Engineering Workshop

This past Saturday, 10 of our 4th through 8th grade girls and Ms.Simone spent the day at Housatonic Community College participating in the Amazing Girls Engineering Workshop.  They were joined by amazing girls from all over the Park City.

Amazing Girl Science seeks to ignite girls’ interest and spark their enthusiasm in science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics (STEAM) while building core life skills of self-confidence, self-esteem, curiosity, problem solving and risk taking.

Our girls visited the Manufacturing lab and even operated some of the machines.  They learned about how atoms behave and electricity in an interactive and exciting presentation.  They even got a chance to build motorized vehicles in teams, and individually they created their very own hovercrafts to bring home!  It truly was an AMAZING event!

    The All-Magnet District Concert

Today dozens of Park City Magnet 7th & 8th grade musicians took the stage at the Edgerton Center for the Arts at Sacred Heart University.  Along with their comrades from Central High School, Classical Studies Academy, Claytor Magnet Academy, Discovery Magnet, Harding High School, High Horizons Magnet, and Multicultural Magnet, they dazzled listeners with their musicial skills.  A selection was played by our Choir, Band and String Ensembles which included the New World Symphony by Dvorak, "This is Me" by Pasek & Paul, and a very special Tribute to Mighael Jackson, arranged by our very own Mr. Williams.

A very special thank you to the PCM Performing Arts Department, including Mrs. Patterson, Ms. Ashman-Arrango, and Mr. Williams, for all their efforts at preparing music, and preparing our students for this incredible collaboration.  And thank you to the Bridgeport Public Schools Performing Arts and Sacred Heart University for making this possible.

2018 Teachers vs. Students Volleyball Game

In a nailbiter of a series, the 8th grade students were nearly victorious, but couldn't overcome the vast experience of the Park City Magnet Faculty.  When the dust settled, teachers took the set three games to two, and continued their winning streak.

Most importantly, good sportsmanship and respect abounds.  This is what the game is truly about!  Congratulations class of 2018!

PCM Goes to the Dogs, and the Movies

Today 350 members of the Park City Magnet family took a trip to Bow Tie Theaters in Trumbull to see Connecticut's favorite hero, SGT Stubby!

    StubbyRealandAnimated

In 1917, SGT Stubby, a stray Bull-Terrier mix, wandered onto the training grounds of Connecticut's 102nd Infantry Regiment, Yankee Division, in New Haven as they prepared to enter World War One. He drilled with the soldiers and quickly became the regimental mascot.  Private J. Robert Conroy adopted him, and the men smuggled him to France.  There, the 102nd and Stubby saw some of the fiercest fighting of the war, and spent more days in battle than any other American unit.  Stubby's actions on the battlefield saved countless lives and his heroic antics have become legendary.  He was wounded twice and recieved several medals, and was even promoted to the rank of Sergeant!

For more about SGT Stubby, visit the official #StubbyMovie website, or SergeantStubbySalutes.org.

Our students had a great time, and are ready to share Stubby's story and the history they've learned about World War One.
