Welcome to Bridgeport Public Schools!

All school-age students residing in Bridgeport are entitled to attend Bridgeport Public Schools. Enrollment for residents is conducted throughout the year. Appointments are strongly encouraged. **PLEASE NOTE: A parent/legal guardian, with whom the student is residing with, is REQUIRED to be at the enrollment appointment **

In order to enroll your student(s), you will need to complete the following steps:

  • Step 1: Submit an online registration for each student you wish to enroll. Create a parent account using the above link and complete all forms and upload all required documents.
  • Step 2: Gather all required documentation (listed below).
  • Step 3: Schedule your in-person appointment here
    • Please come to the office at your scheduled appointment time
    • An appointment is needed for EACH student being enrolled
    • Schedule appointments in sequence.
      • Example: for 2 students schedule 10:00am and 10:30am.
      • Example: for 3 students schedule 1:00pm, 1:30pm and 2:00pm
    • **bring all required documentation and paperwork with you to the Enrollment Center for your scheduled appointment **

Kindergarten Enrollment Information:

​​​​​Starting in the 2024-2025 school year, to be eligible for kindergarten enrollment, students must turn five on or before September 1, 2024 (proof of age is required at the time of registration). If your child does not meet this requirement, you may complete the request for early kindergarten entrance form when filling out the online registration.

  • For the 2025-2026 school year, Bridgeport Public Schools will continue to offer Early Entrance if your child has a birthday between September 2, 2020 – January 1, 2021.
  • If your child’s date of birth is between September 2, 2020 – January 1, 2021, you may complete the request for early kindergarten entrance when filling out the online registration.
  • For the 2026-2027 school year, all incoming kindergarten students must turn five on or before September 1st, 2026. There will no longer be any early entry requests to comply with State legislative requirements.

Important Enrollment Information:

  1. You DO NOTneed to complete the Online Registration if you meet one or more of the following criteria:
  • Your child is currently enrolled in a Bridgeport Public School (excluding Charter Schools that may be in Bridgeport).
  • Your child is transferring to another school within the Bridgeport Public School District (excluding Charter Schools that may be in Bridgeport). Please contact the school directly for further instructions. 
  1. To expedite the enrollment process, we highly recommend that you upload the required documents for admission prior to submitting your online registration. 
  2. If you are experiencing a lack of permanent housing, please contact your Zoned Schoolto discuss your options after completing the Online Registration. 
  3. School assignments will be determined by the Bridgeport Public Schools Directory and Street Guide for all students in grades K-12.
  4. The checklist items listed below are required and must be uploaded online or hard copies must be brought to the school.  If a required item is missing, your registration is incomplete.
    1. An official birth certificate (with raised seal, full page) and/or passport
    2. Current medical records include recent physical and updated immunizations. You can obtain this form from your child’s doctor.
      1. Part I: Medical History and Part II: Medical Evaluation and Immunization Records.
    3. Transfer papers and/or school records from previous schools should be presented (if applicable).
    4. Legal Court documents of guardianship are required, even if a guardian or designee registers a child/children.
    5. Two (2) of the following provide proof of residency:
      1. Current mortgage bank statement of homeowner’s tax bill indicating that the parent/guardian resides at the stated address if the child(ren) reside with the nonrelated adult or family member.
      2. A notarized letter from the homeowner indicating the parent/guardian resides at the stated address if the child(ren) and parent/guardian reside with a non-related adult or family member.
      3. A copy of the parent/guardian driver’s license or Connecticut State ID
      4. Canceled checks to prove payment of rent for two (2) months.
      5. Current bills from two (2) different utility companies; or a letter from the utility company confirming hook-up or future hook-up of the registrant at the address. (A telephone bill is not acceptable as a proof of the residency of the parent or guardian).
    6. Registration Update: 
      1. In accordance with Section 1 of PA 23-208, which amends Section 10-15c of the Connecticut General Statutes effective July 1, 2023
      2. This is a change from the current kindergarten cutoff date of January 1. If a child does not meet the new entry cutoff date, they may still be admitted to kindergarten upon written request from the parent or guardian, and an assessment is administered.
      3. Beginning with the 2024-2025 school year, children need to turn 5 years old on or before September 1 in order to be automatically eligible for kindergarten. 

Pre-School Enrollment Requirements:

  • For the 2025-2026 school year, children must turn three on or before September 1st 2025 in order to be eligible for PK3.
  • For the 2025-2026 school year, children must turn four years old on or before September 1st, 2025 in order to be eligible for PK4. 
  • Preschool children must receive their flu shot by January 2nd, 2026.  
  • Proof of Income
    • Four (4) recent pay stubs for both parent(s)/guardian(s)
    • Unemployment benefits form (all pages)
    • Social Security Income Sheet (all pages)
    • DCF Subsidy Form 
    • State Assistance Benefit Letter (DSS Budget Form) (all pages and if you are currently working four recent pay stubs) 
    • 2024 Income Tax Return 
    • Family Size (number of adults and number of children)
  • Health Insurance Type (public, private or other)

Language Testing

  •  If your child requires a language dominance test after your registration has been reviewed, you may be contacted by the Department of Multilingual Learners and World Languages.  Central Registration will make every effort to assist in coordinating an appointment when possible. Students with an IEP or 504

  • If your child has a current IEP or 504 please bring it with you to your registration appointment. You may be contacted by the office of Specialized Instruction to conduct a review and PPT. Central Registration will make every effort to assist in coordinating an appointment when possible. For questions about the Office of Specialized Instruction, please call 203-275-1306

Requests for Control Transfer

  • To submit a request for control transfer for your student(s) you must fill out an online form in the portal here. Unless the request has been processed and approved your student(s) must attend their zoned school. Requests are processed within the online portal and notification as to the approval or denial of your request will be emailed to you.
