Superintendent's Biography
Dr. Carmela M. Levy-David, an award-winning educational leader, was named Superintendent of Bridgeport Public Schools, Connecticut's largest and most diverse school district in August of 2023. She is recognized as a dynamic, innovative, and transformative educator with more than 26 years in public education. Dr. Levy-David has a proven track record of community engagement and building bridges in support of student success and academic achievement.
She began her career as a classroom teacher and counselor, before serving as a vice principal, principal and then central office administrator. Dr. Levy-David earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Texas A&M, a master’s degree in counseling from Prairie View A&M, a master’s degree in education from University of Phoenix, her superintendent’s certification from the University of Texas at Arlington, and a doctorate of education in organizational leadership from Abilene Christian University.
While grounded in her Panamanian roots, Dr. Levy-David is inspired daily by her family and the gift of empowering fellow educators. She attributes her passion and focus from her immigrant background and her inspiration to remove barriers and develop innovative and sustainable pathways to success for all students.
Dr. Levy-David defines success as nurturing teacher growth and staff development, honoring student voice, creating opportunities for all, and supporting parents as partners in their children’s education. As an English-Language Learner herself, Dr. Levy-David understands the importance of supporting all learners, regardless of their background, so they can have access to the tools and resources they need to be successful and fulfill their dreams.
She is proud to be leading Bridgeport Public Schools and working together to change lives in one generation!
