BPS Celebrates New Partnership with Kool Kids Foundation and Robert "Kool" Bell

Bridgeport Public Schools is thrilled to announce a significant partnership with Robert "Kool" Bell of Kool & The Gang, through his Kool Kids Foundation. This collaboration aims to enrich the musical landscape of Bridgeport's educational institutions, ensuring that students have access to high-quality instruments and opportunities for musical expression.

The partnership was celebrated with a Meet and Greet event on Thursday, May 30, where Bell shared his passion for music and his commitment to supporting underserved communities.  Attendees were treated to a celebration luncheon, where the vision of the Kool Kids Foundation was highlighted, emphasizing the importance of music in the lives of young learners. "It's about communicating with people," Bell remarked. "It's not just about instruments - we want to do whatever we can do to help the kids."

BPS Superintendent, Dr. Carmela Levy-David, shared that "We are revitalizing music programs in Bridgeport Public Schools, and we want to ensure that we can do that in a way that is sustainable. We are excited to embark on this journey with Mr. Bell and the Kool Kids Foundation. Together, we will create a symphony of opportunity for our students, where the universal language of music resonates in every classroom."

Robert Kool Bell, along with his late wife, Sakinah Bell, founded the Kool Kids Foundation with a mission to empower children in underfunded school districts. Recognizing the transformative power of music, the foundation aims to provide access to musical instruments and opportunities for growth and inspiration.

"It's Kool To Keep Music Alive in Schools" embodies the belief that every child deserves the chance to pursue their musical dreams. Drawing from his own experiences at the Boys & Girls Club of Jersey City, NJ, Bell understands the profound impact that access to instruments and supportive environments can have on young musicians.

Known for its cultural and ethnic diversity, BPS is committed to supporting students and closing the gap in every classroom. Under the leadership of Dr. Levy-David, the district prioritizes teacher capacity building, culturally responsive instruction, and ensuring tier one instruction for all students.

The partnership between Bridgeport Public Schools and the Kool Kids Foundation exemplifies a shared commitment to fostering creativity, resilience, and academic success among students. Through collaborative efforts, they aim to transform lives and uplift communities for generations to come.
