District Website Accessibility

The Bridgeport Board of Education is committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of technology or ability. We are actively working to increase the accessibility and usability of our website and in doing so adhere to many of the available standards and guidelines.

What are we doing?

To help us make the Bridgeport Board of Education website accessible for everyone, we have been using the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities, and user friendly for everyone.

This site has been built using code compliant with W3C standards for HTML and CSS. The site displays correctly in current browsers and using standards compliant HTML/CSS code means any future browsers will also display it correctly.

Portable Document Format Advisory
Some documents on our website are produced in Portable Document Format (PDF). In order to improve viewing these files, please download the latest version of Adobe Reader, which is available for free at the Adobe web site. Alternative accessible formats also are provided, where possible, most commonly through a text or an HTML file.

For information about the Federal web standards, please visit the Section 508 website or the Federal Access Board website.

The guidelines have three levels of accessibility (A, AA and AAA). We’ve chosen Level AA as the target for the Bridgeport Board of Education website.

How are we doing?

We are working hard on the Bridgeport Public Schools website to continually update and migrate our legacy site content to achieve our goal of Level AA accessibility. We monitor the website regularly to maintain this compliance, but if you do find any problems please contact us!
